Evaluation Results of the Pupils’ Workshop ”STEAM Imaging: Art Meets Medical Research” Published

Fraunhofer MEVIS is delighted to announce independent evaluation results of the workshops with pupils in the course of the artist-in-residency program STEAM imaging. The workshop was designed to encourage pupils to work with STEM topics (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) and integrate the arts. During the workshop, pupils combined medical image computing and sound art. The STEAM imaging project was evaluated by an external scientist specialized in the effects of arts-based initiatives.

The workshop took place as part of our piloting artist-in-residency program. Fraunhofer MEVIS researchers, alongside the Taiwanese media artist Yen Tzu Chang, explored medical imaging technologies and sound art in collaboration with the Fraunhofer Talent School Bremen and the Ars Electronica in Linz. The participating scientists enhanced the workshop with artist Yen Tzu Chang to include theoretical and practical sound art components. 

Our science communication projects are expressions of responsible research and software development in health care. One strong focus is the engagement of the coming generation. Fraunhofer MEVIS developed several science communication formats that express the value of our R&D to the general public and enable and encourage people to engage with medical technology topics in more depth. We want to remove barriers that prevent people from interacting with difficult health topics such as cancer and heart disease, focusing on the clinical impact of new technologies and their underlying math, physics, and computer science concepts.
