The executive board of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft has appointed Prof. Dr.-Ing. Andrea Schenk as deputy director of Fraunhofer MEVIS as of April 3, 2023. Fraunhofer MEVIS warmly welcomes Andrea Schenk to the institute leadership.
As a mathematician with a doctorate in computer science, Andrea Schenk has been employed at Fraunhofer MEVIS and its predecessor institutions since January 2000 and heads the area of liver research. Since May 2022, she has also held a professorship for Computer-aided Diagnosis and Therapy at the Institute for Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology at Hannover Medical School.
Before joining Fraunhofer MEVIS, she studied mathematics and computer science in Dortmund and Dublin. At the University of Bremen, she completed her doctorate on methods of image analysis with applications in open surgical and minimally invasive procedures on the liver. For her outstanding achievements in research and the transfer of innovative technologies into medical products, she received, among others, the Joseph von Fraunhofer Award in 2018 and the North German Future Award for Artificial Intelligence in 2021.
Together with the managing director Prof. Horst Hahn and the deputy institute director Prof. Matthias Günther, Prof. Andrea Schenk forms the new executive leadership of Fraunhofer MEVIS.
The deputy director Prof. Tobias Preußer will for the time being devote himself entirely to the development of the TechsoMed GmbH. He will remain a member of Fraunhofer MEVIS. The institute sincerely thanks Tobias Preußer for his outstanding commitment so far and is looking very much forward to the further cooperation.
