On Monday, June 12, 2023, the 15th meeting of the Advisory Board (Kuratorium) took place in the institute building of Fraunhofer MEVIS in Bremen. With the participation of all members of the Advisory Board and led by the Chairman Prof. Hans Maier, the meeting was held in personal attendance for the first time in four years.
This year’s presentation of the status update on the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft was given by Dr. Hans-Otto Feldhütter, Director Research Infrastructures and Sustainability, from Fraunhofer headquarters in Munich. In his report on Fraunhofer MEVIS, Institute Director Prof. Horst Hahn addressed the institute's development in terms of content and structure and explained its medium-term prospects and strategic plans.
Additionally stimulated by focus contributions from members of the Advisory Board on the topics “Prostate Cancer Care” and “Imaging Efficiency”, a lively discussion developed. The board members gave valuable recommendations for future focal points, welcomed the development of Fraunhofer MEVIS and expressed their appreciation and thanks to the institute’s staff.
Prof. Dr. Iris Pigeot, Director of the Leibniz Institute for Prevention Research and Epidemiology - BIPS in Bremen, and André Hartung, President Diagnostic Imaging, of Siemens Healthineers in Forchheim, were already newly appointed to the Advisory Board last year. They were presented with their certificates of appointment at this year’s meeting.
This year, Prof. Ahmed Magheli, MD, a proven expert in prostate cancer, was newly appointed to the Advisory Board. He has been Chief Physician of the Clinic for Urology Am Urban in Berlin since 2016 and was elected Medical Director of the Klinikum Am Urban in 2017. Since 2022, Prof. Magheli has also been Chief Physician of the Clinic for Urology at the Klinikum im Friedrichshain.
