Jacobs University welcomes the Fraunhofer MEVIS board of trustees on campus
On June 14, 2012, the board of trustees of the Fraunhofer Institute for Medical Image Computing MEVIS holds its 4th meeting on campus. Jacobs University has been enjoying a fruitful collaboration on numerous levels with the Bremen based research institution, which is world-leading in developing computer aided, image-based medical diagnosis and therapy. Heinz-Otto Peitgen, Jacobs University’s new president elect, will attend the meeting in his current role as Fraunhofer MEVIS’ director.
The Fraunhofer MEVIS board of trustees accompanies the research and development of the institute in an advisory capacity providing new impulses for its strategic direction. The board currently comprises 19 renowned representatives from the areas of medicine, industry, science and research funding, headed by Erich R. Reinhardt, the former chairman of the divisional management of Siemens Medical Solutions AG in Erlangen.
This year, 12 board members are attending the meeting. They will be joined by Brigitte Kleinen, Head of division for the Bremen Senator for Education, Science and Health, Birgit Geier and Hans-Otto Feldhütter from the Fraunhofer Society head office, and the extended leadership of Fraunhofer MEVIS, including Jacobs University’s President elect Heinz-Otto Peitgen.
Fraunhofer MEVIS and Jacobs University have been working together on many levels for several years. In addition to the mutual provision of internships as well as research opportunities for bachelor, master and PhD theses, two MEVIS researchers, Tobias Preußer, Professor for Mathematical Modelling of Medical Processes, and Horst K. Hahn, Professor of Medical Imaging, hold professorships at Jacobs University. Furthermore, Alexander Ziegler-Jöns, Chief Representative for Science & Technology Transfer at Jacobs University is a member of the Fraunhofer MEVIS board of trustees.
