Six months after the foundation stone was laid, Fraunhofer MEVIS celebrates the roofing ceremony for its new institute building on the campus of the University of Bremen on Wednesday, June 19, 2019. Designed as a workshop for digital medicine, the new MEVIS building will create a place where software tools can be developed and tested, where people from different disciplines can meet and help shape the future of medicine. The new institute building, which will be occupied in the winter of 2020/21, offers a total of 210 workplaces on 2,600 square meters of floor space and four floors.

Around 100 people took part in the roofing ceremony, which focused on the partners involved in the construction project. In addition to those involved in the project, several members of the advisory board and employees of Fraunhofer MEVIS followed with great interest the setting of the topping-out crown on the roof of the building and listened to the roofing ceremony speech of construction supervisor Thomas Becker.

The importance of the new institute building for Fraunhofer MEVIS was previously acknowledged in three welcoming addresses. Birgit Geier from the headquarters of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft in Munich underscored the development opportunities the new building offers the institute from the owner's point of view. Architect Jens Kruse explained to the guests the architectural idea of the building, which is based on a cell structure and in which three organically shaped structures intermesh and support cooperative work. Horst Hahn, head of the institute, finally thanked all those involved in the building project as well as the funders from the federal government, the state and the EU.
