School students, their friends, mothers, and scientists exchange ideas on breast health during the Breast Cancer Awareness Month
On the occasion of Breast Health Awareness Month, the “Breast Health Awareness STEAM Workshop” takes place at the Institute on October 28th—an event by women for women, featuring scientists, school students from the trial run of the “Digital Medicine” specialization at the Oberschule am Waller Ring, along with their friends, mothers, and teachers.
The topic of breast health is explored through impulse lectures, interactive stations, and conversations in a supportive setting. Participants delve into various aspects, including breast anatomy and examination methods, new developments in diagnosis and therapy, questions about women's bodies in medical research, insights into the cultural history of the breast, and a female perspective on scientific research. Participants also take a look at an artistic statement that deals with the female body and existing taboos: The program included a visit to the interactive AR sculpture “IntraBeing Expanded View”, which is based on medical images by Bulgarian artist Eli Joteva. The program is complemented by a guided tour of the building, whose interwoven structures are based on cellular architecture.
The workshop aims to create new points of encounter between female school students and scientists, focusing on health topics that concern the participants. It sought to inspire enthusiasm for the future of digital medicine and potential academic paths in that field.
The event is part of the cross-disciplinary exchange as part of the trial run of the “Digital Medicine” specialization at the Oberschule am Waller Ring in Bremen.
