At this year’s WCCM conference, Fraunhofer MEVIS scientist Elin Theilen will give an oral presentation about “Prediction of patient-specific knee joint dynamics in tibial fractures”.
The presentation will introduce a simplified knee joint model based on position-based dynamics (PBD) for predicting patient-individual knee joint motion and verification against finite element (FE) models.
Smooth interaction between knee joint and tibia is pivotal for the mobility of the human body. Tibia carries a large amount of body weight and plays a crucial role in enabling and stabilizing knee joint functionality. At the same time, it is frequently subjected to fractures caused by osteoporosis or injuries.
In clinical practice it is vital to understand tibia fractures in knee dynamic analysis. Models that take into account the patient-specific knee joint motion are supposed to largely improve surgery planning and outcome.
