Andrea Schenk, Deputy Director of Fraunhofer MEVIS and Professor of Computer-Assisted Diagnosis and Therapy at Hannover Medical School, has been a visiting professor at Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH) and Harvard Medical School (HMS) for three months since August 1, 2024.
The visiting professorship expands and deepens existing collaborations between Fraunhofer MEVIS and BWH, including on the Imaging Data Commons (IDC) project funded by the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH), to build a medical image database for research purposes, where MEVIS is already active in the field of digital pathology.
During her stay at BWH, a HMS affiliate teaching hospital, Andrea Schenk is also working on the research topic of assessing liver function using MR imaging and artificial intelligence (AI).
The visiting professorship takes place at the Surgical Planning Lab at BWH led by Prof. Ron Kikinis, who was Co-Institute Director of Fraunhofer MEVIS from 2014 to 2020, in addition to his duties at BWH and HMS. Upon his full-time return to Boston, he was appointed B. Leonard Holman Endowed Professor of Radiology at HMS.
Andrea Schenk’s guest stay is supported by the Fraunhofer International Mobility (FIM) program. The aim of the program is to establish and deepen strategic partnerships with research institutions abroad, generate new project ideas, as well as build and expand international networks.
