  • Fraunhofer MEVIS is once again participating in Girls' Day on April 3 with an extensive program on the topic of “Digital Medicine”. The aim is to arouse the interest of around 20 participating schoolgirls from the 7th grade onwards in scientific content, to convey this in a practical way and to show them perspectives within the STEM subjects.

  • MOIN, short for Model Region for Industrial Mathematics, aims to make mathematics tangible in everyday life, spark interest in the subject, and improve its attractiveness in schools in the long term—for example by contributing to the new upper secondary specialization “Digital Medicine” at the Oberschule am Waller Ring secondary school. Fraunhofer MEVIS, a partner of MOIN and member organization of the U Bremen Research Alliance (UBRA), aims to contribute to strengthening innovation in the region.

  • The European Congress of Radiology (ECR) is an international event, renowned for its significance in radiology. It ranks among Europe's largest medical gatherings and globally as the second-largest radiological congress. A key highlight of this year’s ECR is Pixel Pandemonium, a showcase of novel AI and machine learning tools for medical imaging. This first-of-its-kind session is co-hosted by Fraunhofer MEVIS institute director Prof. Horst Hahn and is endorsed by the Medical Image Computing and Computer-Assisted Intervention Society (MICCAI). Fraunhofer MEVIS is excited to contribute to this year’s program with an oral presentation, a poster, and several live demonstrations.

  • Artificial intelligence and computer-aided support for diagnosis and therapy in digital medicine—these are the topics the Fraunhofer Institute for Digital Medicine MEVIS is presenting at the SPIE Medical Imaging conference, which is held in San Diego/USA from February 16 to 20. This year, Fraunhofer MEVIS is again well represented at the renowned conference with numerous scientific and educational contributions, including a live demonstration workshop, two training courses, three oral and six poster presentations.

  • Prof. Dr. med. Fabian Kiessling has been recognized by Clarivate as a Highly Cited Researcher 2024 in the Pharmacology and Toxicology category. This is the sixth consecutive year he has been on the Highly Cited Researcher list, having already been recognized in the same category between 2021 and 2023 as well as in the Cross-Field category in 2019 and 2020.

  • On September 25, 2024, Institute Director Prof. Horst Hahn and employees of Fraunhofer MEVIS welcomed Kathrin Moosdorf, Senator for Environment, Climate and Science of the State of Bremen, her State Councilor Irene Strebl, and the Head of the Department for Science Planning and Research Funding Dr. Lars Henning. In a presentation accompanied by video and sound, Horst Hahn explained what the institute’s activities aim for – which is nothing less than optimizing computer support and AI systems in such a way that they serve as the key to a more precise, affordable and sustainable healthcare.

  • Industrial mathematics for intelligent systems and the world of tomorrow / 2024

    NordWest Award 2024 for transfer project #MOIN

    Giving society a better idea of the importance of mathematics for innovation and our everyday lives and making the best possible use of mathematical results are the goals of the sustainable model region for industrial mathematics (MOIN) in Bremen, Bremerhaven, and the district of Osterholz. The aim is to establish industrial mathematics as a driver of innovation in business and industry, raise public awareness of industrial mathematics, and make maths in schools attractive again. The transfer project has now been honored with the NordWest Award 2024 from the Metropolitan Region Northwest.

  • Starting with the 2025/26 school year in summer 2025, there will be a new offer for Bremen students at the secondary school Oberschule am Waller Ring, which has a health focus: recently, the school authorities approved the “Digital Medicine” specialization. It sheds light on the part of medicine that addresses the question of how digital methods can improve healthcare. The role of imaging techniques and the potential of artificial intelligence (AI) are prominent examples. The profile is offered in cooperation with the Fraunhofer Institute for Digital Medicine MEVIS. The first trial run is now starting at the MEVIS partner school Oberschule am Waller Ring (formerly part of the Walle school center). It enables interested students to take a look at the future professional fields of medicine.

  • On July 10, 2024, at the Curious Future Insight Conference, experts from science and industry discussed the potential of artificial intelligence (AI) in health research in a workshop organized by Fraunhofer Health.   • The EU-funded project TACTIX was kicked off successfully by a joint workshop held in Istanbul at Bogaziçi University (BOUN) on June 4 and 5. Approximately 40 members and students from the Faculty for Biomedical Engineering attended the official project kickoff, followed by the first meeting of the project's General Assembly to plan the next three years of work packages.
