The European Congress of Radiology (ECR) is an international event, renowned for its significance in radiology. It ranks among Europe's largest medical gatherings and globally as the second-largest radiological congress. A key highlight of this year’s ECR is Pixel Pandemonium, a showcase of novel AI and machine learning tools for medical imaging. This first-of-its-kind session is co-hosted by Fraunhofer MEVIS institute director Prof. Horst Hahn and is endorsed by the Medical Image Computing and Computer-Assisted Intervention Society (MICCAI). Fraunhofer MEVIS is excited to contribute to this year’s program with an oral presentation, a poster, and several live demonstrations.

Artificial intelligence and computer-aided support for diagnosis and therapy in digital medicine—these are the topics the Fraunhofer Institute for Digital Medicine MEVIS is presenting at the SPIE Medical Imaging conference, which is held in San Diego/USA from February 16 to 20. This year, Fraunhofer MEVIS is again well represented at the renowned conference with numerous scientific and educational contributions, including a live demonstration workshop, two training courses, three oral and six poster presentations.

Mehr als 200 Teilnehmende aus Wissenschaft, Politik, Wirtschaft und Praxis trafen sich am 2. und 3. Dezember 2024 beim »Bremer Symposium AI in Health« im Festsaal der Bremischen Bürgerschaft zum Austausch über künstliche Intelligenz (KI) und Gesundheitsforschung.

Prof. Dr. med. Fabian Kiessling has been recognized by Clarivate as a Highly Cited Researcher 2024 in the Pharmacology and Toxicology category. This is the sixth consecutive year he has been on the Highly Cited Researcher list, having already been recognized in the same category between 2021 and 2023 as well as in the Cross-Field category in 2019 and 2020.

Am 13.11.2024 wurde auf den »Future Medicine Innovation Days« in Berlin das Strategiepapier »Pharma F&E 2035 – Deutschlands Innovationsrahmen für die Zukunft« vorgestellt. Das gemeinsam vom Verband der forschenden Pharmaunternehmen (vfa) und dem Fraunhofer-Verbund Gesundheit erarbeitete Papier benennt Defizite und formuliert priorisierte Handlungsempfehlungen. Als eines von insgesamt sieben Instituten des Verbunds Gesundheit war auch Fraunhofer MEVIS an der Erstellung des Papiers beteiligt.

Anlässlich des Monats der Brustgesundheit fand am 28. Oktober der »Breast Health Awareness STEAM Workshop« am Institut statt – eine Veranstaltung von Frauen für Frauen mit Wissenschaftlerinnen, Schülerinnen des Probelaufs des »Profil digitale Medizin« der Oberschule am Waller Ring, ihren Freundinnen, Müttern und Lehrerinnen.

Andrea Schenk, stellvertretende Institutsleiterin von Fraunhofer MEVIS und Professorin für Computer-Assistierte Diagnose und Therapie an der Medizinischen Hochschule Hannover, ist seit dem 1. August 2024 für drei Monate Gastprofessorin am Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH) und an der Harvard Medical School (HMS) in Boston.

“We Flow into the World, and the World Flows into Us — The Beauty of Blood Flow" gewinnt Industry Award for Best Animation beim the Raw Science Film Festival 2024. Die Preisverleihung fand am 5. Oktober 2024 in New York, USA, statt.

The European Society of Radiology (ESR) in cooperation with the European Institute for Biomedical Imaging Research (EIBIR) invites applications for the Pixel Pandemonium at the European Congress of Radiology (ECR) 2025. ECR 2025 will be taking place in Vienna, Austria, from February 26 – March 2, 2025.
