Third Prize in the Dirk Bartz Eurographics Medical Prize Competition
The prize was awarded for the contribution „ AVM-Explorer: Multi-Volume Visualization of Vascular Structures for Planning of Cerebral AVM Surgery“, a cooperation between Fraunhofer MEVIS and the Lahey Clinic in Boston. The work demonstrates how state- of-the-art techniques from the fields of computer graphics and image processing can support neurosurgeons with the challenge of creating a mental 3D model of the lesion and understanding its internal structure. The clinical value of the method is evaluated by three case studies along with the medical assessment of an experienced neurosurgeon.
The three winning contributions were selected from 18 high-quality submissions. The winners received their prize certificates in the Eurographics 2011 award ceremony on April 12, 2011, and presented their work during the Medical Prize session on April 15, 2011.
The Eurographics Association organizes a biannual competition to acknowledge the contribution that computer graphics is playing in the medical field, and to encourage further development. In 2011 the Eurographics Medical Prize has been renamed to Dirk Bartz Prize for Visual Computing in Medicine to honor Dirk Bartz who passed away in March 2010.
